Minimum Requirements:

  • 3-year tertiary qualification Bachelor’s Degree with 1-year post-graduate diploma in Library
    and Information Science or 4-year tertiary qualification in Library and Information Science
    at NQF level 7;
  • 3 – 4 years of professional library experience with practical experience working on a
    computerized cataloguing system.

Primary Function:
Manage and control the creation and maintenance of bibliographic records for library resources, including reference material, on a computerized bibliographic database in
order for the public and staff at service points to successfully retrieve information contained in information resources and thereby provide for the educational and
informational needs of all users throughout the City in accordance with recognized bibliographic standards and Library and Information Services policy and procedures.

  • Supervise the creation and maintenance of bibliographic and authority records;
  • Train new cataloguers in cataloguing and classification relating to and monitor the work of
    new and inexperienced cataloguers;
  • Liaise with staff, supervisors and other departmental personnel;
  • Plan workflow and improve operational functions;
  • Apply specialist skills gained through experience;
  • Assist with the documenting and maintenance of cataloguing manuals;
